Motor Claims
Motor Accident Investigations
Investigations designed to establish the circumstances surrounding motor accidents and provide relevant factual information for claims assessment.
Overview
What this service covers
A motor claim turns on a short sequence of events that nobody recorded at the time. Reconstructing it means going back to the road, the vehicles, the paperwork and the people who were actually there.
We attend scenes, trace and interview witnesses, examine damage against the reported mechanism of the accident, and compare the account given with the documentary record.
Typical situations
When You May Need This Service
The damage does not match the account
Impact points, damage patterns or vehicle positions sit awkwardly against the mechanism described.
The identity of the driver is in question
There is doubt about who was driving, or whether that person was authorised and licensed.
Witnesses are named but untested
Statements exist, but the witnesses have not been independently traced or interviewed.
The scene needs to be seen
Road layout, sight lines, signage or conditions are material to how the accident is understood.
Scope
What We Investigate
The enquiries below are the ones most often required. Scope is agreed for each instruction, so a file only carries the work it actually needs.
- Accident circumstances
- Driver verification
- Witness enquiries
- Vehicle-related enquiries
- Scene enquiries
- Claimant verification
Methodology
Our Approach
Each instruction follows the same sequence, so findings can be traced back to how they were established.
Scene attendance
Investigators visit the location, record the layout and conditions, and photograph what is material.
Vehicle enquiries
Damage is examined and recorded against the reported mechanism of the accident.
Witness tracing and interview
Named witnesses, and others not previously identified, are traced where possible and their accounts recorded.
Document comparison
The abstract, claim form and statements are compared for consistency, and any discrepancies are set out.
Output
What You Receive
Reporting is the product. Every instruction closes with a written record that sets out what was established and on what basis.
Accident report
A structured account of the circumstances established, with each finding attributed to its source.
Scene record
Photographs and a description of the location, layout and conditions as found.
Witness statements
Signed or recorded accounts from the witnesses traced.
Discrepancy schedule
Where accounts conflict, the conflicts are set out plainly rather than resolved on your behalf.

Questions
Frequently Asked
If your question is not answered here, our team can usually give you a direct answer before you commit to anything.
As early as possible. Scenes change, vehicles are repaired or disposed of, and witnesses become harder to trace as time passes.
Often, yes. A great deal can still be established from the vehicles, the documents and the people involved, and the report records what could no longer be verified directly.
We establish and document the factual circumstances. Where a formal engineering or reconstruction opinion is required, that is a separate expert instruction.
We work from the abstract where the client holds it, and compare our findings against it. We do not represent ourselves as acting for or on behalf of any authority.
